Louisa Robertson
Mother, foundHER and nurse; just some of the many hats that Louisa Robertson wears on a daily basis. She talks to WOTC about how she manages her busy days and the power of social media.
Mother to three daughters and one son who is also autistic, Louisa’s days are not without its challenges; however the All Things Baby London founder and nurse has mastered the art of sticking to a routine. “I've been a nurse for the past sixteen years, and my main background is managing children with complex care and rare diseases. So I worked very closely with specialist hospitals such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and Evelina London Children’s Hospital to be able to discharge these children and bring them into the community. So I would have to train my staff to be able to care for these children.” Her work as a nurse and the special care her son required became the pillar to which she founded All Things Baby London on. The brand offers contemporary, modern and fun gifts for mother and baby that are luxury, chic and affordable.
Louisa successfully manages her day-to-day responsibilities through the support of her network; one of which is her husband. “He's a very big part of the business [and] he's a very big part of helping to manage the children.” Her eighteen year old daughter is also a great part of her support system. “She's just fantastic. I'm really blessed with the children that I do have. My daughter's helped out a lot with the business and a lot in managing the younger children as well.
So between myself and my husband, I would split the care between the both of us. Louisa’s husband also works so for the pair, it’s a juggling act.
“Routine is one of my main ways of managing everything that I do. Everybody kind of knows what they need to do, at every hour of the day,” she laughs. “And that's to help me to be able to manage every day in the way that I do.” Louisa has dedicated times where she works solely on her business, which is usually when her youngest daughter is at school and her son is at nursery. At three o'clock, work goes away and she shifts her focus to her children through cooking, playing and reading. “Once they're in bed, I then have that time for myself, to be able to plan for the next day.” She highlights how important it is, especially as someone who does many things, to have time to herself so that she can recuperate.
Since the inception of All Things Baby London, Louisa has discovered just how powerful social media could be for her business. “I do most of my promoting and my communication through social media, through Instagram, and I think if I didn't have that platform, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. Budget is always key when a small business is starting up, so having social media to be able to expose yourself and expose your business has been magical.”
All Things Baby London is currently focused on building its community and launching its new ranges, which will also be part of a campaign. The company ethos is to always empower women and continuously celebrate motherhood.
