Top 5 skincare tips for the colder days

Words Thereza Rebouças

You feel the crisp air, the temperatures are getting lower, the days are getting colder,

and suddenly it’s Autumn again. Looking at the orange colored leaves would be

inspiring if the change in temperatures wasn’t causing your skin to react, right? Well, it

doesn’t have to be this way. You still can enjoy a walk in the park while drinking your

pumpkin flavoured coffee... All you need is a small change in your beauty regimen to

keep your skin safe this season.

Yes, you can prevent skin dryness, redness, irritation, scaliness or excess oil, creating a

barrier that will help heal the skin giving it a luminous, smooth and even-toned

complexion. Come check how to Winter-proof your skin with our top 5 tips below:

1 - Moisturize Yourself

First of all, you don’t need a complete overhaul of all your skincare products every

change of seasons. Making a simple change will help the skin adapt, for example:

choosing a richer or more soothing moisturizer.

Cooler temperatures usually bring humidity levels to drop and this can cause the skin to

become dehydrated, damaging its natural barrier and leading it to a heavier moisture

loss and sensitivity. Moisturizers’ main job is to deeply hydrate, protect the top layers of

our epidermal barrier, nourish, and lock serums and active ingredients into the skin.

Applying the right moisturizer will help balance things out.

Do it twice daily, in the morning and at night.

2 - Change your Cleanser

Washing your face is the most important step in your skincare routine, the secret here is

switching the heavy-duty foaming cleanser and opt for a milky or creamy one instead -

your skin should feel calm and hydrated after washing it.

Keep the exfoliation routine as well one to two times each week, it eliminates those dry,

dead skin cells helping reveal a brighter skin.

Good friend’s advice: never wash your face with hot water - in any season.

3 - Fight the Long, Hot Bath Urge

Baby, it’s cold outside - I know! After a long and stressful day out, all you want is to go

home and take a long, warm bath, right? Although it might feel good, prolonged contact

with hot water can strip the skin of its natural moisturizer, leaving it even drier and

dehydrated. Our tip to you is to cut the bathing time and apply a rich moisturizing cream

or body butter afterward to lock in hydration and keep your skin soft. Don’t forget the

face lotion as well.

4 - Attention to Your Lips

Chapped lips? Try adding a lip scrub or exfoliator into your daily skincare routine. Their

formulas usually combine deep-hydrating oils and gentle exfoliating particles that work

together perfectly removing flaking patches while rehydrating.

5 - Keep Hydrated

Drinking water is basic but we’re always forgetting to do it, especially during the colder

days. Keeping hydrated will combat the dehydrating effects of the central heating for

example, did you know dry air can pull the moisture from your skin too? Drinking plenty

of water throughout the day is key this season.

Also, you can monitor the humidity level in your home by adding a humidifier to your

apartment in both the living room and bedroom. No need to thank us later!

Bonus: Don’t Forget Your Sunscreen

Let this be your reminder that sun cream isn’t just for summer. During the colder months,

UVA rays are just as strong as they are when the sun is out, just as likely to cause

serious damage. Don’t forget to apply it at the back of the neck too, and always consult

a dermatologist to help you choose the best one for your skin type.
