Celebrity Fitness Trends
Words Victoria Deborah
In the world of celebrities where they’re judged for nearly everything, body image sits as the favourite with social media having an enormous influence on portraying unrealistic body standards. All that pressure can sometimes encourage a number of the top bizarre celebrity health trends from the extremes of drinking urine to placenta smoothies. However, recently many celebs are now using their platforms to share their body image struggles with the likes of Love Island UK star Josh Denzel sharing with his millions of followers a before and after picture where he revealed that he had gained 10KG from eating & drinking too much, far too often Josh then continued to share how he overcame this. So what are celebs currently doing to remain fit?
1. Boxing Classes
Boxing classes are remaining in trend - especially within the celebrity world. Whereas it’s going to be a fad for others, the advantages of a boxing class are tremendous! Gyms can sometimes become a routine, boring with the main target often on isolating and dealing with specialised muscle groups meaning unless you are a gym freak you’ll eventually plateau. Boxing isn’t only fun but covers all areas. Boxing works the core muscles by using balance and strength, the leg muscles through various kicks and stances, the arm muscles through punching and jabbing, and lastly the glutes, through continued skipping and dodging movements that are essential for overall body fitness. So you’ll see why celebrities can’t get enough of it. Boxing classes are a big yes to the Kardashian family with it being linked to Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian and Larsa Pippen. It’s also very popular in the modelling world with the likes of Adriana Lima and lots of other celebrities all choosing boxing as a way of staying fit, with many claiming that boxing gave them a genuine confidence boost.
2. Dance Cardio
If you are craving to get back into fitness but want a fun alternative, then dance cardio is the one for you. A full-body workout, toning and shaping your muscles through specific high and low-intensity movements. If you’re not a natural dancer, don’t rule out dance cardio just yet! It may feel strange at first and unfamiliar but eventually like with everything in life, with repetition after a few sessions you’ll realise improvement in your coordination and rhythm, and you might even look good doing it.
So when it’s not burning fat and firming areas of your body—mainly your legs, glutes and obliques, it is said to have immense mental health benefits—boosting your brain activity and improvement to your mood, helping those struggling with depression and anxiety. Who doesn’t want to look good and most importantly feel good! This new dance cardio trend seems to be popular with Victoria’s Secret models Martha Hunt, Elsa Hosk taking part. Stars like Julianne Hough, Reese Witherspoon swear by this dance-based cardio method. Well, when you see their results you can understand why.
3. HIIT
HIIT is here to stay! HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training workout. Exactly how it sounds is exactly how it is. Combining repeated short bursts of intense work for 20 to 30 minutes, the HIIT method is a trend that will torch calories fast. If you are slow-paced and like to take your time this may not be the one for you with breaks usually only 15 to 45 seconds long, you’re generally almost always working past your threshold.
However, one of the keys to HIIT training is that even the breaks are designed to burn calories. HIIT is so popular with easy access to workout routines from the comfort of your own home with a plethora of videos on YouTube. This new fitness trend is being practised by countless celebs such as Love Island UK Gabby Allen who uses the training app fiit that allows you to virtually train and compete in live HIIT sessions.
The likes of David Beckham and Jenifer Lopez, who are ultimate body goals, leads us to the conclusion that despite the high intensity and little recovery time the results are worth it!
