Equal London
Co-founders - Anjali Obhrai & Sunita Harji
Sunita comes from an educational background in business management whilst Anjali graduated with a degree in Biochemistry. The pair crossed paths during their time in financial services and given that they both come from corporate backgrounds and they thoroughly enjoy ‘looking the part’ at work, they know exactly what their customers are looking for. For the duo, when they dress well at work, it creates confidence and makes them feel empowered and limitless – the very feeling they would like every female professional to feel in their clothing.
Equal London came as a solution to the personal difficulty both women had faced finding high-quality and affordable professional wear. When they had begun speaking to other women, they found that they were also having the very same issue. Anjali and Sunita believe that within the fashion industry, workwear is a category which is heavily overlooked even though we all spend so much time in the place of work. For them, clothing brands had not adapted to the changes and this is where they saw their entry into the market.
The Equal London brand is ethical, eco-friendly, empowering and uplifting to women. Their models are real women and they do not support digital enhancement in any of their brand images. Anjali and Sunita are advocates for female equality and wanted to build a powerful brand for like-minded women. When a woman wears Equal London, they want each woman to feel like she is wearing the most stylish to tackle her working day career.
They brand had a soft launch earlier this year following the global pandemic however, had originally planned a full brand launch at the latter part of April 2020. Their current series one collection consists of five statement pieces and was inspired by the American TV drama, Suits.
Equal London is for every woman. Typically, women just starting off in their careers do not have much disposable income to purchase workwear. Each of their designs comes in two colours and is able to be purchased for just under one hundred pounds. The pair really wanted to focus on the affordability element of things.
One of the difficulties Anjali and Sunita faced when shopping for workwear was being able to buy high quality statement pieces. It was a struggle to find that ‘perfect’ pencil skirt that simply went with everything and could also last through the many seasons of fashion. Another difficulty was versatility. Out of their five statement pieces, there are 12 outfit combinations. They can be dressed up and down with the right shoes and jacket. Whether you’re in a corporate environment or whether you’re in a smart casual environment, there is something for every woman. The brand has plans to expand their size range to accommodate petite, curve and tall women within the next 12 months.
