Atura Naturals

Founder - Norah Kerwegi

LIKE MANY WOMEN, Norah found herself searching for skincare products that would compliment her skin. With hyperpigmentation and sensitive skin, finding skin products that helped proved to be next to impossible as the products she was finding on the shelves were not for her skin type and simply did not help.

Even local hair & skin shops that sold products for the black community were a no-go. They are largely run by people who did not understand her problem. She would enquire about what she could use and was often given cocoa butter, which seemingly solved many different skin issues.

She found the products were cheap and heavily laden with petroleum, parabens and other ingredients you didn’t want to put on your skin. She became desperate and her self-esteem became heavily affected by the lack of solution. When she was introduced to Ugandan shea, she began to see skin improvements and found that the product was easily absorbed and didn’t sit on her skin. Norah had also tried the conventional shea butter from west Africa that was on the market but the consistency and results did not compare.

During a trip to Uganda in 2017 and following a conversation with her uncle and aunt about her future, it was very clear to Norah that she wanted to create her own brand of Ugandan Shea Butter to be able to produce a quality and consistent brand that would be accessible in the UK. Most importantly, she wanted to help others restore their skin to its natural glow through the use of Uganda’s rich plant life.

From a young age, she has seen the importance of community and giving back through the actions of her mother who would volunteer and actively engage in community work both in the UK and Uganda. Norah herself has been involved in community work from her youth and wants to continue to ensure that her community benefits.

The company’s vision is to use clean, wildly African grown and sustainably sourced beauty products as a vehicle for social impact.

Each ingredient is sustainably & ethically sourced first-hand from women owned co-operatives and created with the highest quality, authenticity and purity. Atura Naturals believes in a minimalist approach - most of their products include just one ingredient, which is multi-purpose as it can be used for the hair, face and body.
