Beauty Tips with Yvonne Victoria

Words Yvonne Victoria

As a dark-skinned black woman, I have found that my makeup has gone through various changes over the years. These changes stem from constantly changing beauty trends to the introduction of products in a wider range of shades. I am only 23 and I already feel as if I’ve tried most if-not-all beauty trends. Due to this I can confidently say I have found my go-to makeup look along with non-negotiables in my routine that have allowed me to come up with my top tips & beauty tricks!

Tip 1 – The Wispy Bushy Brow

I absolutely love mimicking a natural bushier brow. After years of what you can call the HD brow, I took the plunge into enhancing my brows as opposed to drawing them on. I like to create hairlike strokes to achieve more volume in my brows. For this I highly recommend the Benefit Microfilling Pen followed by the Benefit 24-hr Brow Setter.

Tip 2 – Contouring my Lips

This is a trick I discovered very recently and have been addicted to ever since. I used to often struggle to find the perfect brown lip liner that would stand out against my skin tone and after years of searching I resulted to concealer. I instantly achieved a more plump and fuller lip by contouring/lining my lip with a darker concealer. I love to do this with the Fenty Beauty Match Stix but have recently discovered I can also do this with a dark brown eyeshadow and a pencil brush!

Tip 3- Cream Blush

I tried Cream blushes quite late, but they became an instant favourite as I love to achieve a more natural base. What I love about cream blushes is that they can literally be used for any type of makeup look and its versatility. You can also use these on your lips and lids to really add some radiance. A few of my favourite cream blushes come from Fenty Beauty and Iconic London.

Styling tips with Yvonne Victoria

For many of us this time of year can be a bit confusing as we transition from Summer into Autumn. Do we take a jacket in case of a sudden drop in temperature or do we just take the plunge into more jumpers and risk being too hot? As frustrating as this is, I have found that shirts really do save the day! So, what are the best two ways to wear a shirt this season?

  1. With thigh High Boots

The beauty of a Shirt and Thigh Highs is that it’s such an effortless and versatile outfit. It can be warmed up with a coat/blazer or cooled down without one. Nonetheless your legs are covered in case of a sudden breeze.

  2. With Straight leg Jeans

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of jeans as I believe it can sometimes be limiting. However, they’re perfect for the season. On a summer night or warmer day, you can simply pair the outfit with your favourite sunglasses and some sandals (preferably heeled). If it’s more towards the colder side a pair square front ankle boots and a blazer/coat will do the trick.
