What to Do with Your Wedding Dress After the Big Day
Words Jade Johnson
It’s official. You have said, “I do” and are now Mrs. Congratulations! The celebrations are beginning to ease as you settle into married life and after going through gifts and sending out thank you notes to guests and vendors, it dawns upon you, what do you do with the wedding dress? You’ve grown a huge emotional attachment to what is your dream dress and the sentimental value is unmatched. So, it is not uncommon if a wave of sadness comes over you when you realise, it’s time to pack away the dress, potentially never to be used again. However, here are some options and ideas on how you could repurpose your gown and avoid it from gathering dust or taking up space.
1. Donate it!
‘Brides Do Good’ is a bridal boutique located in London, Kensington who work with charities to combat child marriage and empower women. They stock 100% donated dresses directly from the designer or alternatively stock a small collection of pre-loved dresses donated from brides directly. The dresses can be found for up to 70% off the RRP and some of the designers to choose from include Vera Wang, Pronovias, Suzanne Neville and other incredible designers. There are also many national and independent charity shops which you may wish to donate your dress to and support a cause that is particularly meaningful to yourself.
2. Upcycle it!
Upcycling is a sustainable way to reuse or repurpose an existing item to create a new product. By upcycling your dress, you will be able to retain all the lovely memories of your wedding day and do your part in protecting the planet. Have your dress tailored and transformed into an entirely new garment to be used for another occasion.
3. Sell it.
Buying a wedding dress could be seen as an investment and should you manage to keep your dress in fairly good condition after the wedding, selling the dress could be a viable option for you. Sites such as Ebay, Facebook marketplace Still white, could provide you with the platform you need in order to connect you with women who may be looking for a specific designer dress or a discounted gown.
4. Frame it.
A personal favourite of what to do with your wedding dress after the big day is to frame it. If you have the space for it, why not have your dress framed and placed in your home? Not only will you have a beautiful piece of art, but you’ll also have a constant reminder of one of the happiest days of your life filled with love and happiness. If you’re in search of where you can get a custom frame made visit ‘The Beautiful Frame Company’ who create bespoke frames to showcase precious items.
5. Save it.
If you can’t bear to part with your gown, there is always the option to preserve it in a keepsake storage solution. This allows you to save your dress for other special moments in your life such as to renew your vows or potentially for future generations to wear for their wedding day. Alternatively, you can simply just keep it to look at from time to time to relive special moments. Whatever you choose to do with your dress, just don’t throw it away!
