Almost Married
Words Jennifer West
This year has been unprecedented. Nobody could have predicted what 2020 has had in store for us all, it has been a year that has shaken many lives, careers and relationships and amongst the numerous events, celebrations and gatherings that have been cancelled, the impact that COVID-19 has had on the wedding industry and the 240,000 plus couples who have had to postpone or cancel their weddings due to the pandemic has been huge. The impact has not just been financial, but emotional. Just because you’ve had to put your wedding plans on hold, doesn’t mean that you have to let this time pass by without making it special. Global Wedding Photographer Jennifer West, shares her top six tips on how to make your original wedding date, still a day to remember.
1. Take the day off, whether you’re back in the office or working from home, make sure you make time for each other, book the whole day off and treat it as a special day.
2. Start the day with a lazy breakfast in bed, treat it like the first morning of your honeymoon.
3. Feel your best self, it’s a great opportunity to go for your make up trial with your wedding make up artist or hair stylist.
4. Make a day of it, pack a picnic or book your favourite restaurant.
5. Pop open a bottle of bubbly, it makes us all feel special right and it’s a day to be celebrated.
6. Have an almost married photo shoot with your wedding photographer.
I’m a firm believer that photos make memories and there's no better way to make your original wedding date feel special and important. You could book it at a location that is special to you both, or around the most romantic light and catch the golden light at sunset.
If you haven’t already had engagement photos taken then there’s no better time. It’ll give you the opportunity to connect with your photographer and if either (or both) of you feel a little nervous about having your photo taken, it’s a good way to get used to being relaxed in front of the camera. Whatever you choose, make it as special as possible.
If there’s anything that this time has taught us, it is that our time together on this planet is precious. As a couple, whatever stage your relationship is at, you must remember that it is rare, wonderful and you are so lucky to have each other. Whether you are at the early stages of planning your own wedding, or like so many engaged couples this year, you have had to put your wedding plans on hold, it is important to capture, remember and celebrate your relationship. Now, it is as important as ever.
