As guests we are delighted, as the ones who are tying the knot it is a whole world of behind the scenes organising / plotting / planning / trialling & testing. As wedding stylists & suppliers, it’s our job to make those visions & dreams become a reality!
The last year has thrown challenges in so many directions, especially that of those longing for nuptials. We have heartbreakingly seen weddings rescheduled & rebooked due to restrictions. Dream weddings have been re-strategized / downsized / rethought & moved beyond recognition, but throughout it all, the wedding spirit has remained resilient. The overall feeling has been that “love will succeed” & a new found appreciation of what is truly important has been rediscovered.
We are overjoyed that we seem to be moving away from restrictions & towards making visions happen as they have been imagined. Trials are being booked & weddings are back on & the joy to be able to surge forward with plans has never been greater!!! As award winning wedding stylists we flipping love all things celebratory & have put together some pointers regarding our department to ensure you navigate the area of hair on your big day smoothly! Just like the physical act of doing hair, the key to success is all in the prep.......
YOUR VIBE
Pin some ideas of what you want to embody on the day. This can be a variety of things that convey the vibe you are aiming for: including hair / your dress / jewellery / your icons / florals / designers / goals. This will be a great tool to visually describe what you’re wishing to achieve when you meet your potential / chosen stylist.
Come armed with ideas, even if none of them are exactly what you want, they will convey a VIBE & contrary to popular belief, us stylists LOVE visual imagery as a pointer to what the tongue is trying to say haha!
MEET YOUR TEAM
Traditionally wedding bookings are taken via a phone call to the salon or via an online booking form, but in this era of virtual necessity we have found the “online consultation” so valuable!
This gives you the chance to “meet” your stylist ahead of paying your deposit / booking your trial, and allows you to ascertain if you’re on the same wavelength. Be warned though: enthusiasm can last longer than 5 mins so make sure you put a bit of time aside to chat!
This will also give you the opportunity to air any queries you have & set your mind at rest. In an era of safety procedures & process, it’s also good to see what measures stylists have in place.
ACCESSORISE
Your choice of accessories can totally make your look & an overall classic look can be thoroughly transformed into a one off statement with the addition of a showstopper.
If you totally love something, go for it! But remember: less is more. If you’re making a focal point in one area, keep the rest considered to ensure you keep it aesthetically pleasing & not turn it into a visual circus.
Accessorising your bridal party can pull lots of individual looks together & create a beautiful theme without everything looking too matchy matchy.
BUDGET
Be aware of what you may be forking out for your hair depth. Do a little market research & see what you’re potentially working with, then see where your stylists sit. If you require or desire a specific stylist, prepare yourself with their costs.
Your quote should be discussed at trial & all costs such as travel & additional pieces will be outlined.
Be up front with the business side, which you can then agree & sign off.
Don’t get swept away with the “whatever it costs!” then be surprised haha!
A bonafide stylist will be happy to provide an outline for your consideration before you confirm your booking.
TRIAL & ITINERARY
We would ALWAYS recommend a trial ahead of the big day, to ensure all areas are covered.
A bit like dresses, quite often what you envision is not always what you settle on!! This session will also ascertain whether you’ll need padding or pieces for the big day & double check all your accessories are suitable with the look you’re aiming for.
This is also a great time to work out an itinerary for the day. This is purely for guidance purposes & is nothing to be scared of! It doesn’t take the magic away from the day, it gives a great reference to those that need a little direction on what will be a magically busy morning!
DO YOU
Ultimately this is YOUR day. Try to remember to stick to your goal for yourself & not be swayed by what a loved one thinks you should do.
We are all for advice & all for sharing ideas but if you want your hair down, you have your hair down babes!!
