Editor’s Letter
Welcome to our final issue of 2020,
In 2017, I found mentorship and learned what it really meant to be part of a family. I was in desperate need of both. Through that mentorship and family, I have been given words that have provided me with direction. Words that have given me vision. Those words are the very reason that you, the WOTC Community, are so near and dear to my heart. Our community has allowed many women to finally feel a part of something, to finally know that they too, CAN!
For our final issue, I have gathered a few friends of the magazine; mentors to many of us and industry leaders to make a pledge to help change the lives of 150,000 women by 2021.
Together, we have decided that although 2020 has been pretty disastrous for many, we consider it an opportunity to unify and stand for change together.
This month, we stand alongside Bobbi Brown, Millie Kendall MBE, Alexia Inge, Caren Fisk, Christina Adane, Debra Charles, Helena Mendès, Irene Forte, Isabella West, Jo Tutchener-Sharp, Mariya Dykalo, Millie Kendall MBE, Pia Stanchina, Ruby Hammer MBE, Ruthie Davis, Sabinna Rachimova, Sallie Berkerey, Sarah Curran-Usher MBE, Shannon Jennings, Vania Leles, Vanita Parti MBE, Whitney Bromberg Hawkings and Yulia Pashevkina, who will be starting their 2020 today. I know many of us may want this year to end, and we want to forget what 2020 did, but we also understand it’s a mindset. From this December 2020, we have made pledges that will ensure 2021 is better for women and girls in our community worldwide.
I would like to dedicate this issue to a few women. Firstly, Samantha and Nicola Chapman, you have created a legacy that will never die and have pioneered the way for hundreds and thousands of women across the globe in the beauty industry. A young MUA now feels confident enough to upload her first Instagram video, or give her first beauty tip because of you. To our 33 inspiring black women, who wrote letters to their younger selves and changed the lives of millions of onlookers, who saw and read their stories across London train stations during black history month.. THANK YOU!
I want to thank every single one of our 57 previous cover girls. Thank you for your time, love and transparency. You said yes to a woman who has never done this before. You sent the ladder down for me to then send it down to others. To the women who don’t know who they are yet - that’s okay. The ones that may be on the verge of giving up, and just need to hold on a little bit longer. The ones that have stopped dreaming and need someone to help them see again, and the ones that have never been taught how to dream, this one's for you!
