Curried Beef Burgers with a Mango Cabbage Slaw
With Whitney Williams
Are you a burger lover and you want to try something a little different? Well this is the perfect recipe for you! There is nothing like our succulent curried grilled beef burger with the sweet mango cabbage and carrot slaw. You can enjoy making these on a nice sunny summer’s day when you want to fire up the barbecue or even when you simply feel like a nice comfort meal. Whatever the weather - this recipe is not one to disappoint you.
Ingredients:
500g ground beef
1 tbsp mild or hot curry seasoning
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
For the Mango Cabbage Slaw:
1 whole mango (peeled & sliced lengthways)
1/2 large red cabbage (sliced lengthways)
2-3 carrots (julienned)
3 spring onions (sliced lengthways)
Juice of half a lemon or lime
How to prepare:
In a mixing bowl, add your beef, seasonings and egg. With a spoon (or using your hands) mix and incorporate well.
Form into equal sized patties and place in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to firm up.
Next, move on to your slaw. Peel and dice all your ingredients.
Squeeze in your lemon or lime juice then mix gently to incorporate.
Once patties have been in the fridge for at least 15 minutes, heat up your grill pan till smoking hot.
Take out your patties and add them to your grill pan.
Grill for 5 minutes (for medium-well) and then flip and grill for another 5 minutes.
Once patties are done, serve topped with the mango cabbage slaw.
Enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
For a rarer burger, reduce the time grilling by 1 minute and for a well-done burger, add another minute to your grilling time.
The Mango Slaw makes 4-6 servings (it could be more depending on your regular serving size).

Ingredients:
3 cups of granola (you can use a small mug if you don’t have measuring mugs)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup of raisins and dried peaches
1/3 cup of walnuts (Optional)
1/2-3/4 cup of agave or honey (the more agave the more clusters you create)
How to prepare:
1. Preheat the oven 200 degrees.
2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, add the syrup and mix!
3. Spread out baking paper onto your oven tray and spray with oil, or grease with hands. Lay granola flat on tray.
4. Cook for 30 minutes, turning the mixture every 10 minutes. If you don’t turn it, the gojis will burn! Alternatively, you can add the goji berries last which I’ve also tried before.
