A Way With Words

Nisha Harichandran is the face behind Bohem Notes, her content writing business. Led with her bohemian spirit, the passion at Bohem Notes is to ensure each written word is infused with soul.

The former commercial lawyer turned entrepreneur and storyteller had always longed to become a writer. “While practising law offered me the opportunity to write reports and newsletters for clients, I still wanted to be a writer,” she admits. “I love travelling, the experience of exploring and observing the everyday life, which are stories in motion. Moving to Cardiff gave me a necessary break that orchestrated the turning point which propelled me to re-evaluate my life.”

Turning 40 gave Nisha the courage she needed to become the writer she had always wanted to be. “I said to myself, ‘if I don’t do it now, when will I do it,’ so I joined the Cardiff Writers Circle, which was a safe space for me to get feedback in terms of my writing, and I reconnected with my blog, Bohemian Crossing.” From here, she began to take her writing seriously, maintaining a discipline to post regularly and write on topics she cared about.

“You’re never really ready. I set up Bohem Notes to empower people to share their stories,” she states. The company provides businesses with comprehensive writing services, helping them manage and maintain their various platforms, and in turn, building their brand.

Bohem Notes offers a range of content writing support services from blog articles,  newsletters, web copy, social media posts and allows clients to select individual services or packages, which also come bespoke to the needs of each client.

Alongside launching Bohem Notes, the global lockdown only fuelled Nisha’s vision further. She published an article series called Growing in Lockdown, in collaboration with her brother, Hari Jr, which featured 12 women around the world. The article covered their growth and how they had continued to build themselves, particularly during such a difficult time. Nisha explored people’s approaches and responses to change, capturing the achievements attained despite physical limitations. Hari Jr’s remote photoshoot complemented the visual storytelling, making this article series a compelling read.

On the brand, Nisha comments: “the green represents nature which is constantly evolving yet abundant. The grey represents the journey of life and shades of interpretation, whilst the gold is ‘you’, the individual, unique and priceless. The gold is a reminder to stay authentic and honour yourself whilst you grow. Bohem Notes affords people the ability to share their stories and journey. The colours are fitting in putting it all together in an existential way. Always remember yourself and how you are driving things forward in your growth.”

Nisha advises new and budding businesswomen to trust their voices and listen to their hearts. “Grow in your journey. Start small and see how you progress. Your vision and ideas will evolve as you put things into practice. Starting small allows you to set the boundaries and experiment with the rules and games.” She also encourages inspiring entrepreneurs and writers to seek out mentors and read books to enhance their knowledge and growth. “You are not alone in this journey. There’s a lot of people that can provide support and help. Find your tribe.”

“I’ve enjoyed the journey so far because I am a student of life. Just a reminder [that] there’s no real start date, especially when you focus on yourself and not compare yourself to others. I’m grateful to be able to reach the first anniversary and envision a future for the business.”

On what’s next for Bohem Notes, she tells WOTC, “I am expanding into coaching. I am a certified neuro-linguistic practitioner and currently pursuing my masters. The idea is to expand Bohem Notes to provide coaching services, encouraging people to create and live a life they love.”
