Decluttering Tips:
Do You Really Need It?

Whilst we're all unsure about when the lockdown will really end, let's continue to make the most of being indoors. Interior Designer & Stylist Sayo Akinlude, helps us to make the most of our space or rather, lack of it. Tidying up isn't always fun, especially when you don’t know where everything is supposed to go. Here are some top tips to help you decide whether you really need that item and where it should go.
Why should we declutter?

Right now, your main reason to clear up may simply be down to the lack of space you have. It may just be that you’ve never had the time to go through it and now you’ve been given the opportunity. There's no wrong or right answer. Decluttering your space can also help to declutter your mind. Decluttering can also be seen as a way to simplify your space and create a more minimal design approach.
Do you want it or do you need it?

There's a subtle difference between want and need. Identifying the difference will help speed the process up. If you don't need it, then it doesn't need to stay, say goodbye. You can donate it, recycle it or simply put it in the trash. For example, we all need mugs - but we don't need 50 different ones.

If it is something you need, it will be something you use regularly. If you don't it's something you simply want and don't need.

Pick a spot to start, big or small - just start! Set a time scale and set aside breaks for yourself. Create yes, no and maybe piles. Finally, set yourself goals so that you can remain motivated during the process.
