New Year resolutions were cliché yet it was a membership we all seemed to renew each year, not knowing the real cost was focus and saying no to many things and people, even though you really wanted to say yes. The promise of making a completely fresh start was a gold mine and the notion that life was going to be different had a riveting allure to it.
But as I sat down amid all the Christmas festivities to pull apart my 2022 in its entirety: what I did; what I didn’t do; what I could have done better; what I couldn’t have changed at all — I realised nothing was going to be different this year unless I was intentional towards making it so, though it also wasn’t that black and white.
New Year resolutions had become so cliche because, for many of us (including myself once upon a time), it was like a get rich quick or dare I say, lose weight quick scheme. We were after all the microwave generation, but what was really needed was small goals and being OK with not seeing a result right away.
Mostly, and probably the most important of them all, you had to look back in order to move forward. You had to have those hard conversations with yourself that you were likely avoiding and figure out why; if you didn’t achieve what you wanted to achieve previously, why that was and if you had a great result, how would you do it again?
In our first issue of the year, I speak to award-winning cover girl Jessica Rich, best known for her PVC stilettos winning the hearts of women around the world from Cardi B to the Kardashians, on how she is slowly building her eponymous shoe empire and her recent collaboration with American recording artist, Cassie.
Also in the issue, we talk about what to do during your business’ quiet periods — and why they’re completely normal and why most new year’s resolutions fail.. but yours doesn’t have to!
