You know love Gossip Girl xoxo

When do you think of Gossip Girl what comes to mind? The crazy storylines or the fashion, it is the fashion. Gossip Girl 2007 was based on the novels written by Cecily Von Ziegesar written in the early 2000s that centre around wealthy teenagers just doing what they want. 15 years after the show that debuted on the CW Gossip girl still had a grip on people, they even made a reboot last year.

When watching Gossip Girl, the fashion really captives you, each of the characters has a style that is iconic and unique from Blair’s iconic headscarf to Chuck’s scarf.

Blair Waldorf-Bass is the queen bee of Constance Billiard; throughout the show, her fashion is polished and preppy her hair is always perfect and never out of place.

Eric Daman the custom designer made sure she had girly romantic touches to her preppy looks such as hair bands and patterned tights she loves a patterned tight moment. Blair is a fan of old Hollywood, and her inspiration is Audrey Hepburn and is influenced by her and adopts a conservative style. Blair is known to be mean and manipulative in the way she approaches people and situations.

Earlier in the seasons, Blair’s look consists of black, navy, and neutrals with occasional pops of colour such as her iconic pink and white floral dress in the later episodes of season 1. Her style is versatile despite it being in similar hues.

Blair’s style is a mixture of sophistication yet girly giving her looks a balance of being mature yet still having a flirty innocence. Skirts, dresses, lace, and ruffles are Blair’s go-to look outside of school and we rarely see her wear trousers.

Blair isn’t as outgoing as Serena to disguise that trait of being approachable she wears a lot of bright colours when she is scheming to get her way. In comparison, Serena Blair’s fashion is darker and less bright. In the earlier seasons of Gossip Girl Blair’s style is on the peppier side to coincide with her need to be in control as she falls in love with Chuck her style is much more romantic and whimsical and starts to wear more colour.

Serena Van der Woodsen is the bubbly frenemy of Blair Waldorf; her style can’t be any more different from Blair’s they are day and night. Serena’s style is boho chic reminiscent of the 2000s iconic model Kate Moss who had the iconic boho chich which was trendy in the late 2000s. Serena also has a Grecian Goddess style as she wore a lot of floaty dresses that

Serena’s style and personality are juxtaposed to Blair’s as her look is very messy yet effortless, she rolls out of bed puts on an outfit and looks good without very little planning. Her style matches her very aloof yet charming personality. She favours looks such as skinny jeans with high-heeled boots or very mini dresses which was the style out of the time compared to Blair’s more old classic style.  Serena’s style is very mismatched with various prints however it looks stylish and not out of place compared to Vanessa’s style which has a similar boohoo style.

Her style is high end however she puts her own twist on the way she styles these pieces. Even her school uniform is very true to Serena, she wears her shirt untucked and wears her school skirt short. She is a fan of sparkles, metallics and animal print. She loves an oversized bag and long necklaces to complete her look. Her style raises eyebrows amongst the upper elite as Serena isn’t afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to her makeup and fashion. She tends to wear warmer colours such as coral, golds, pinks, and blues. Her style is easier to recreate than Blair’s due to the fact it is causal wear with a twist.

Jenny Humphrey: Jenny is the younger sister of Dan Humphrey and does not come from money like the other girls in the show. In the first two seasons, she is a clone of Blair, however, in the latter half of season two, Jenny’s style becomes darker after the actress Taylor Mommsen’s style became integrated into Jenny’s style.

Jenny dresses similarly to Blair to be liked by Blair by wearing similar preppy twits on her school uniform as she doesn’t come from money, she often makes her own clothes or gets hand-me-downs. She is a people pleaser and that comes through in the way she dresses as she doesn’t have her own identity. As the show progresses her style is punk rock and gothic with loads of black and blood red lips, she is whiter and longer, no longer the clean-cut girl from the first season. In the first season, she adds colour to her uniform such as pink, red and oranges and as her style evolves, she starts wearing black, grey, and earthy greens.

Georgina Sparks makes Blair look like an angel, Georgina’s style is just as dark as Jenny’s, yet it has a boho chic edge to it however it is in a sophisticated way, she favours black, grey, and purple. Skinny jeans are a constant staple in her wardrobe, her accessories are huge sunglasses and towering black high heels.

Chuck Bass: Where do we start? The male version of Blair, the well-dressed devious male on the show, is known for his iconic scarf in season 1 and he is always well dressed, from his school uniform to his suits. He is smart, tailored and never a hair out place, he and Blair dress complement each other out of all the boys he is the most fashion conscious, he wears cardigans in red and black and tends to wear darker hues just like Blair however he did wear colourful suits at times. He is one of the most iconic male fashion characters on TV.

Nate Archibald: He is the preppy Labrador of the series; he is the poster boy of Ralph Lauren wearing mostly polo shirts and loafers however he gives a little edge by making it look messy at times as he starts to rebel from his classic preppy style and becomes a little more rugged as the series progresses. He wears a lot of green and blue to bring out his eye colour as well as the season progresses, he wears more casual laid back styles.

Dan Humphrey: The poorest one out of the main characters, he isn’t into fashion as he is a writer, therefore, it reflects the way he dresses, he is a fan of neutral colours such as various shades of brown and black and occasionally burgundies and red he wears a lot of jeans even when he becomes a successful author and has a better finical situation his style is still rugged just more elevated.

Gossip Girl has proven that fashion makes a show, even after the show ended 10 years ago, it still has an impact on millennials and Gen Z who have their own takes on fashion. We can’t wait to see how Gossip Girl 2021 lives an impact when the show ends.
