The Dos:

Take breaks

Taking breaks are necessary to having a successful and productive day. These should be away from your workstation. As going outside is a NO NO, take advantage of the other rooms in your house. If your workstation is in your bedroom, take your breaks in the living room, kitchen, or laundry room if you have one. Utilize every single room and space.

Create a space that motivates you

Right now, social media seems to be everyone’s escape, however, if you’re like me and don’t want to spend your entire day swiping up and down, create a corner, a wall, a space that you fill with motivational things. This can include your daily goals, pictures or quotes. Add some scented candles and a mat as it can also double as your yoga spot - which leads us to point 3.

Exercise

Quarantine is not an excuse to be inactive. It is more of an opportunity to get in shape and keep fit. The United Kingdom is allowing people to go out once a day for exercise, so make the full use of it. Plan your route before going out, to maximize the opportunity. If going out is not for you, set alarms to stretch whilst working - this can even be done in your motivational corner. Regular exercise or stretching helps to improve circulation around the body.

The Don’ts

Work from your bed

I don’t know about you, but my bedroom is designed for maximum relaxation and comfort! So, working from my bed reduces my productivity, I spend half the time debating whether to work or nap. Most importantly, working from your bed will eventually have a negative impact on your brain as your brain will begin to associate your resting space with your working space or vice versa. You will start to find that slowly, you’ll begin to struggle with falling asleep or you’ll constantly fall asleep and get no work done.

Get distracted

Being easily distracted will stop your productivity. Things such as Netflix, your iPad, your phone, are a distraction. Create a space that allows you to focus on your work alone. Sometimes it helps to have your workstation facing the wall.
