The New Qualification for Teachers

Do you agree with the qualification process that allows teachers to be able to teach? Have you ever asked yourself that question?

We can all admit that there was at least one teacher that did not have the ability to teach effectively, for numerous reasons; from lack of understanding, to lack of communication or the inability to manage a classroom full of unengaged students. However, they made it through the ‘qualification process’ of being a teacher. Therefore, there must be more that is required to teach a whole generation of students. After all, students do spend most of their youthful years under the supervision of their teachers at school.

Here are three things that we should look for in our teachers:

Inspiring teachers

Have you ever had a teacher that you look at, and you already feel uninspired and unmotivated? I definitely have - but this could have been easily avoided by them working on their demeanour and the way they carry themselves. It is very hard to learn from someone who you do not aspire to be like. It could be that they are always happy or that they always dress really well - there has to be something that encourages us to learn more and they have to be consistent with their character.

Experienced teachers

A teacher should have a portfolio of evidence that what they teach is effective. For example, an international business teacher should have at least worked in an international business to qualify to teach that subject, especially at an A-level to university level.

Passionate teachers

Teachers that are full of passion are usually the best! They will usually find a way to help you understand, and they will keep you engaged at least, even if you are not a big fan of the subject. When teachers are passionate about something they will put their very best into what they do. However nowadays, a lot of teachers do not particularly enjoy what they teach because on occasions due to lack of staff, a physical education teacher, for example may be called in to teach maths!

Finding the right teacher is imperative because in most cases, it is the difference between the loving and hating of a subject, as well as getting a really good grade and an average grade.
