Without You There Would Be No Success

Words Karimah Shaw

When did women begin to feel a sense of disparity in the workplace? If more women understood the value that they are able to bring into the world of business from start-ups to global firms, we could begin to address and solve many socio-economic issues.

Women need not lament on the issues of diversity and inequality, instead we should inspire others by speaking more and be proud of what we bring to the workplace and society. The current issues of diversity and inequality are only an opportunity for new leaders to enter the working world and introduce a restored approach and new mindset.

Be confident in your position as a helper - don’t despise it. Master and identify gaps that no one has yet been able to; this is what is really missing.

If there are no platforms, help create them.

Women have innate ability to identify inefficiency. The same intuition you have to recognise what is not in place is what you should use to create a solution.

In order to see different results, you have to be different.

Do not simply conform to your job specification! Bring something different to the table by going the extra mile to help without being asked.

Take your role seriously as there is always room for evolution.

Stop feeling defeated and never become complacent. You will be surprised where consistency, sacrifice and perseverance can take you.

Knowledge is power.

In order to increase knowledge, don’t lose your ability to keep learning. If there is something you don’t understand, do not be afraid to ask someone who does know - after all, two minds are better than one.

Don’t hug your network, share it!

Networking is about sharing, not taking. Build and develop relationships with others to help them reach their goals too.
