So if you’re curious about everything and anything tech but the tech jargon gets a little bit confusing for you, don’t worry we’ve got everything you need to understand and maybe even become the next Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerburg or Whitney Wolfe Herd.
WEB3
Web 3.0 is the third generation of internet services for websites and applications, focusing on providing a data-driven and Semantic Web through the use of machine-based data comprehension. Web 3.0's main goal is to develop smarter, more connected, and more open websites. However, it hasn’t been implemented yet, and it seems that it would take 10+ years until it does as the transition for Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 took about 10 years. So experts believe that is what will happen for Web 3.0.
NFTs and Blockchain
So we have all heard the chit- chat in the last few months of 2021 about NFTs and of course that was only the beginning for NFTs. Artists all over the globe have taken and evolved the craze trend of NFTs from Bored Ape Yacht Club to Hermes sending a supposed cease and desist letter to MetaBirkins NFT Creator.
But what exactly is an NFT? Well for a start it stands for Non-Fungible Token. These tokens represent the ownership of unique items, hence the reason why artists have been taking a liking to it. A variety of things can be tokenized such as art, real estate, collectibles and any other things. The beauty of tokenizing these items is that they can only have one official owner at a time and this is secured by Ethereum blockchain (ethereum is also a cryptocurrency that you can buy but we can get into cryptocurrency another time).
Metaverse
We have heard of the multiverse, we’ve watched Ready Player One and possibly read the 1992 book Snow Crash. So the futuristic predictions (cough especially from the Simpsons) was always a possibility, it was only a matter of when? And it looks like we may see the flourishing of the Metaverse this year.
But what exactly is the metaverse? The metaverse is a collection of 3D worlds which focus on social connections. Users basically “live” within a digital universe and are able to access this virtual world through a VR headset. The first time that the term “metaverse” came about was actually in the 1992 fiction novel Snow Crash.
In 2021, we witnessed our “friend” Facebook decided that it was time to change their name. Of course we all know that regardless of all their different lawsuits concerning, oh I don’t all of our personal data won’t let us forget that they did such. But they decided to change their name and we rolled with it so in anticipation, drum roll, Facebook is now called Meta. Taking upon the focus of the metaverse potential and currently creating technologies for it as well. Mark Zuckerberg has said that Facebook's future is on the metaverse.
So watch out for the development of the metaverse and the world of AR because this year is looking to be digitally wild, although Zuckerberg has said that it could take 5 to 10 years until the key features of the metaverse are mainstream. However, we never know what the future could hold.
Cloud
Ever since the pandemic, cloud technology has been the saving grace for individuals and businesses as remote work has been an aid and bridge for work. According to Ganter, they predict that 47% of knowledge workers will work remotely in 2022 which is a 20% increase from the amount it was in 2019.
So it looks like workspaces, collaboration tools, and monitoring programmes that are cloud-based are here to stay. The emergence of cloud-based security technologies and cloud data loss prevention will likely be the most significant technology breakthrough in 2022.
These are only a few top trends that are predicted for 2022, so watch out as we go into depth on some of these trends and many other techie terms. If you have any techie questions, send them over on the socials and we will definitely write about it.
