Sallie Berkerey, Managing Director of CEW UK
Sallie Berkerey’s media background spans decades and largely features Condé Nast, whose media titles she worked across, for over 20 years including Glamour and British Vogue.
“I have a degree in international business with French and being a child of the eighties, I had grown up witnessing the boom in advertising, and glossy magazines played an important role in my life,” she tells WOTC. “I'd like to tell you differently, but I fell into media.” Stephen Quinn had given Berkerey her first big break - because that’s all you ever need.
CEW launched in the US in 1954 as an organisation to support women working in the beauty industry. It launched its UK division in 1992. “Whilst our membership is of course, not exclusively female, we are proud supporters of the many women who have built and continue to build brands and businesses within the beauty Industry.”
“Charities have had an extremely challenging year and CEW has supported The Eve Appeal for the past ten years, so whilst thinking of ways we could raise funds for them in the absence of our ongoing ticketed events, the idea of the Female Founders Beauty Edit was born.”
The support from brands has been huge, and the response from customers has been overwhelming. We hope to repeat this activity a couple of times a year as it offers consumers a limited edition curated edit, shines a light on the amazing brands and founders in our industry and also benefits the tremendous work of The Eve Appeal.
Berkerey has led CEW UK in providing over 30 free virtual events covering a wide variety of business topics. They recently launched their Founder Series, with three sessions centred around mental health and wellbeing, crucial topics especially during this time.
“In 2021, #IPLEDGE to try new things and not be afraid of change. 2020 has forced all of us to break free from the norm and “lookout” and whilst it has been incredibly challenging in many ways, it has also been empowering and freeing.”
