Different ways to decorate your home during Christmas

Words Barbara Akinkunmi

It's that time of year to decorate! You should, however, decorate in elegance. To be honest, Christmas decorations don't have to be the traditional red/green colour scheme. They also don't have to be extravagant; they can be simple if you wish. Why not personalise your space with your favourite colours and styles?

You know what makes this time of year even better? Decorating your house with interior decorations which will set the seasonal mood just right. In case you’re not sure on where to start with this, here’s some guidance on how to make festive differences for spaces big and small. Whether you prefer traditional decor, something neutral or something a bit more out there, here’s some inspiration for you to create!

Colour Scheme - Traditional or Neutral?

First things first - consider your colour scheme! This can actually be very helpful to help unify your home and ensure things don’t look mismatched. Christmas decorations have now become more modernised with people venturing out to white and neutral colour schemes as opposed to the traditional green/red scheme. Whichever one suits you, decide the scheme you’re willing to go for this year and this will help you select your decorations for the rest of your home. Typical complementary colour matches are usually Red and gold, silver and white, or gold and green, however you may want to also add a pop of colour by introducing an accent color that will modernize the traditional Christmas decor without clashing!

By focusing on a colour, you'll naturally create a theme in your house, and you won't be tempted by random decorations that don't go with the theme you've chosen. An easy way to implement this is through choosing Christmas crackers colour for your dinner table for example. You may even have a favourite colour or a colour your family honours that you can use to dress items around your house such as lights, christmas tree bulbs, stocking, christmas wrapping paper, dining table crackers etc.

Welcome! - Home Entrance

Your home entrance door can always use a little sprucing up for the christmas season. Try adding items such as a Christmas Wreath with or without LED lights - this definitely makes the difference especially if you’re going for a minimal look. I’m really loving the neutral schemes at the moment with the touch of gold and silver. It gives your home a Christmas feel without being too overbearing colour wise.

Wreaths can come in different colour schemes, styles and sizes. I would suggest having features included such as LED lights, gold or silver ornaments or a large bow to top it all off. Other seasonal ornaments such as mini fake plants, LED Lit Christmas gift boxes or reindeers really unite for a perfect entrance, so these could sit outside or inside your front door.

Deck the halls - Literally

A bit of dazzle or colour usually does the job. It’s worth adding a touch of decoration to your hallway whether that be lights up along the staircase or tree ornaments along hallway mirrors.

If you’re in an apartment, you could decorate your hallway console tables with mini seasonal ornaments, LED Candles and mini stockings. Or dress your room door frames with lights and tinsel. Remember - It’s the small additions that make the difference, whether it’s through bold or subtle colours.

Oh Christmas Tree

Now we all know that the living room area is one of the main spaces where Christmas decorations are experienced, so it’s important to select the right artificial Christmas Tree.

To make it worth its while, decorate it with timeless pieces such as a tree topper of choice, coloured ribbons, ornaments of choice, tree toppers and Christmas lights. It’s a good idea to surround your tree with gifts and ornaments such as LED Lit gift boxes or a Santa Claus or reindeers figure. Christmas wrapping is also very important! Why not go for a wrapping paper colour to suit your house theme or a personalised wrapping paper to suit the family ?

Decorations don’t have to end at the christmas tree, you could also decorate your sofa. Instead of adding more items, why not just change what you already have? For instance, swap your normal pillows for holiday-themed ones for the christmas period.

A Christmas Feast! - The Dinner Table

Let’s not forget to transfer the Christmas spirit to the dinner table too! You can decorate the dinner table with colors of choice alongside various Christmas accessories that will certainly keep everyone seated in the festive mood. Not only will they enjoy the delicious food, but the beautiful sight of the decorated table.

Centrepieces are always a win so you could Light up the table with a wreath bright accompanied by flameless LED Candles that will certainly give your loved ones the royal treatment.

Bedroom

For bedrooms, the aim is to keep it simple and this can be achieved by adding festive accessories that uplift the Christmas Mood. You could add features to your dressing tables, mini plants to your window board or mini wreaths above your bed headboard. The aim is for you to decorate according to your preference and less is more, so you don’t have to go overboard to make the subtle festive difference!

With the Christmas season approaching, Christmas decorations no longer have to be seen as a burden or chore, it should be something that we look forward to doing! Whether you live in a spacious home or a small apartment, every single inch counts and there’s always something you can add to make your space festive.
