Daniel W. Fletcher SS23 Is an Ode to British Culture
Words Bethany Boyo
Daniel W. Fletcher shows us what it means to be quintessentially British.
The show adequately dubbed Stand and Deliver began with one minute of silence in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. First up on the runway was an all-black suit coupled with an armband of the same colour, all made from British wool. The show in its entirety was a juxtaposition of respect and rebellion, with tailoring, fluid cuts and dashes of faux fur meshing to create something new and vibrant.
The Daniel W. Fletcher runway was an ode to British culture, falling right into place with current affairs, an almost nostalgic array of both times past and present. The collection seemed to almost transition from day to night, flowing and becoming less about the tailoring and more about fluidity in more ways than one.
Stunning pieces included an all-black double-breasted suit overlayed with a pleated satin wrap skirt, white neck sash, and a broad-shouldered coat in a re-imagined Prince of Wales check print. Divine evening dresses with cut-out detailing and twinkling embellishments were seen next to leather pieces and corsetry, making the collection a soirée of glamour with a touch of drama.
A collection that was made to Stand and Deliver, the accessories also took centre stage, with jewellery from the London-based brand Hatton Labs accentuating every design and collaborative shearling bags with Axel Arigato. Fletcher shows us what it means to be quintessentially British.
