As London’s fashion week commences, we are in no doubt ready to catch a glimpse of some of the hottest designers showcasing their newest collections down the runway. While we anticipate the stunning sets, creative themes and overall collections in store for us, it’s only fair we take a take a quick trip down memory lane and remember some of the most memorable fashion shows thus far. From powerful and inspiring shows to the fun and funky side of things, we take a look at it all so sit back and enjoy!
Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda at the Valley of the Temples
The breath-taking show that embodied ancient Greek mythology took place at the Valley of the Temples, located in Agrigento, Sicily . The sun set out a golden veil, highlighting the intricate detail and embroidery on each of the garments as the models began to parade down the runway. An astonishing 125 looks were put together for the show. Ranging from the full skirts and dresses, down to the head wear and accessories, it was clear that the incredible craftsmanship at Dolce & Gabbana was nothing short of skilful and admirable expertise. The beautiful historic setting paired alongside the complementary collection, made it one of the most magical and majestic shows as seen in fashion.
Saint Laurent S/S 2020
Taking place underneath the dazzling illuminations of the Eiffel tower, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello showcased his Spring/Summer 2020 collection. Adding a modern twist to the previous YSL collections, we saw tailored suits alongside sequinned pieces and knee high boots strut the runway between the beams of white light. This time, the signature YSL punk chic look was dialled down to a softer, more romantic and timeless experience. As the iconic model Naomi Campbell closed the show in an all black sequin suit, its doubtless to say that onlookers were just as thrilled to see the striking spectacle unfold.
Chanel F/W 2014
From Chanel ketchup to Chanel detergents, Karl Lagerfeld turned our dreams into a reality with his very own Chanel supermarket. With colourful and fun pieces dominating the show, the signature Chanel tweed aesthetic remains a staple within the collection. The show put forward multiple looks, ranging from the sporty luxe sneakers to the oversized and baggy jackets, offering a more supermarket casual collection that incudes everyday wear. This show highlighted a new and creative perspective on fashion that undoubtedly did not disappoint, making this one of Chanel’s most memorable collections.
Alexander McQueen S/S 1999
No.13 is considered to be one of Alexander McQueen’s most remarkable shows to date. It is regarded as a piece of performance art by many and the pinnacle of McQueen’s artistic stature. The show ranged from prosthetics to solid leather bodices and focused on neutral shades such as off white and beige. Rough parts of the garments such as belts and harnesses were softened by the addition of delicate lace and ruffle designs. The most memorable part of the show took place when famous model, Shalom Harlow, stood between two robotic arms stationed on opposite sides of her. Her white ruffled dress was sprayed black and yellow as she rotated and the robots acting with increasing agility. This performance undoubtedly left a mark on many and will go down as one of the greatest fashion moments in history.
Jacquemus S/S 2020 - “Le Coup De Soleil,”
Located in a lavender field in the south of France, a bright pink carpet is set out in celebration of 10 years of Simon Porte Jacquemus’ label. The models paraded the pink carpet in bold, summery prints with a variety of funky accessories, including micro bags and bedazzled pieces in collaboration with Swarovski. The location and collection go hand in hand with each other almost like a dream, making this one of the most beautiful and breath-taking shows in fashion to date. The young designer, who has been compared to the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, has without a doubt left us eager and excited for the future of Jacquemus.
