What will British currency look like now?

The Queen’s face has dominated the British currency for decades. However, now with the changing of the monarch also comes a new face to British currency. The process is a lengthy one, with approximately £4.5bn-worth of bank notes currently in circulation with the Queen’s face on, the matter of changing notes is no simple task.

Any new image that appears on money, would need the agreement and sign-off from Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Mint, who produces British currency, has worked with the Queen throughout her reign to create currency with five different portraits of her – each gained her personal approval. However, it is not yet certain or clear if we will see King Charles’ face on our currency anytime soon.

The Bank of England have remained relatively quiet on the matter – only stating that Queen Elizabeth II notes will remain to be considered as legal money that can be exchanged, and that any update on the country’s existing notes will be made ‘once the period of mourning is over.’

One thing that is for certain, is that if British currency is to change to show the face of King Charles, then his portrait will be facing the opposite direction to his mothers. Since the reign of King Charles II, it has been tradition to have the new monarch’s portrait face opposite directions to their predecessors. Hence, King Charles III would to be facing the left.

Whilst the change of monarch photo is to be expected on British currency, this change will neither be immediate or simple. Other currencies around the globe which also feature the Queen, will be due for a change – with Charles’s effigy to a appear on multiple other countries’ currencies.

The most likely outcome for the UK, is that legal tender will remain to have the Queen's portrait on it for many years to come. The process of changing money is a long and complicated process, meaning that currency with a portrait of King Charles II is not to be expected soon. Gradually, British currency will combine tender with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and tender with the portrait of King Charles III - which overtime well gradually become currency with only King Charles III portrait portrayed upon it.

The alteration of currency is not the only thing within the UK that will experience change because of the change in monarch. Stamps, post boxes, and the national anthem will all undergo a change to embrace and illustrate the new King - King Charles III.

Who were those present at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral?

Words Cyann Fielding

Today, Monday 19th of September, marked the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. As thousands of mourners gathered across London to witness a glimpse of the funeral procession, hundreds of global dignitaries attended the funeral ceremony. Situated in Westminster Abbey, approximately 500 Kings and Queens, prime ministers and presidents gathered to pay their respect to Queen Elizabeth II.

With approximately 2000 guests, the funeral was a grand affair - marking it as one of the most monumental ceremonies seen in the UK for decades.

The Royal Family

Right at the front of the ceremony was King Charles and Queen Consort, Camilla. Alongside them for the Queen's other three children: Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. The Prince of Wales, William, and his brother Prince Harry attended with their wives, Kate, the Princess of Wales, and Megan. They were also joined by the Queen’s other grandchildren - Princess Beatrice and Eugenie (the children of Prince Andrew), Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips (the children of Princess Anne) and Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn (the children of Prince Edward).

The attendance of the Royal Family also included some of the Queen's great-grandchildren. Whilst Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended the ceremony, the children of Harry and Meghan remained away from the funeral.

Other Royals included Lord Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, and Prince and Princess Michal of Kent.

World Leaders

As an important figurehead for the Commonwealth, leaders from around the world also gathered at the Queen’s funeral.

Alongside past and present British Prime ministers stood Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheik Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe were also present. The current chair of the Commonwealth, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame also attended alongside South Africa's president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Joe Biden, U.S. President, was also in attendance with other significant leaders, including Irish Taoiseach Michael Martin and President Michael Higgins, German President Frank Walter Steinmeir, French President Emmanuel Macron an Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

The only world leaders missing from the ceremony were from Russia, Belarus, and Myanmar due to recent acts of war and genocide from these countries.

Other Royalty

Royal Families from across Europe, which many of share blood relations with the Queen, also attended. Royalty ranged from Kings and Queens to Emperors and Empresses, in addition to other royal leaders.

Celebrities

The high-profile event also included other high-profile individuals – however, the number of celebrities which were invited remain small. Many of these celebrities invited had a personal connection to the Queen.

Bear Grylls appeared on the behalf of the Scouts in his role as Chief Scout. Killing Eve star, Sarah Oh, join to the funeral is part of the Canadian contingency - she was joined by Justin Trudeau. as they are both recipients of the Order of Canada, the country's second highest honour. Sophie Winkleman attended alongside her husband, Lord Frederick Windsor, who is currently 52nd in line of succession to the throne. David Attenborough’s friendship has been adored by the public, and hence it makes sense he was also in attendance. Other prestigious names included Elton John, Daniel Craig, Gary Barlow, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Many of whom who were part of the Queen's life that could not or did not attend her funeral also sent well wishes and have been noticed immersing themselves among the crowds lining the streets of London. Queen Elizabeth II was known, cherished, and honoured across the whole of Britain and the globe - hence thousands of members of the public also attended her funeral, watching it from the streets of London or upon screens situated across the country, and broadcasted across the globe.

Monday 19th September: Which Businesses Are Open and Closed?

Words WOTC Magazine

Major shops and businesses across the UK have shut their doors as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral. King Charles III approved a bank holiday on Monday for the state funeral at Westminster Abbey, however it has been left up to employers as to whether they decide to give their staff the day off to observe the national day of mourning.

Many supermarkets and store chains decided to close their doors, while others have limited opening hours. Here's your guide on what is open and closed today.

Supermarkets and convenience stores

As more than a million people have travelled to London for the state funeral, some convenience stores are staying open to give them access to food and drink.

Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons have closed all of their stores whilst Asda stores are closed until 17:00 BST, Sainsbury's Local and petrol stations will be open from 17:00 until 22:00 BST and Tesco Express stores will open at 17:00 BST. Sainsbury's and Tesco have shut large stores, whilst Waitrose has shut all of its stores apart from a small number in London along the route of the procession.

Shops

Department stores Harrods, Selfridges, John Lewis and House of Fraser have shut their doors, while some shopping centres are showing the funeral on big screens. Other shops that are closed include Apple, Homebase and Primark.

Leisure

Cinema chains Odeon, Cineworld and Showcase are closed. Vue Cinemas are not showing films, but screening the funeral for free at some sites. PureGym has said its sites would be closed between 10:00 and 14:00. Other gyms, libraries and other venues for local authorities said it would close all of its sites.

Pubs

Some of the UK's largest pub and restaurant chains have said they will stay open as a place for communities to come together to remember the Queen. Many will be opening early to show the 11:00 BST service and observe a two-minute silence at midday.

Restaurants and takeaways

McDonalds said its 1,300 UK restaurants would be closed from midnight until 17:00 and there would be no food deliveries during this time. Dominos Pizza will reopen at 12:00 and Pizza Express will open at 15:00. Greggs shops are closed, although the company said a small number of shops operated by its franchise partners may remain open. Other aspects of daily life have also been put on hold on the day of the state funeral.

Post offices are closed after Royal Mail announced its services would be suspended.

Major London train stations will be open and hundreds of extra train services have been scheduled with some running through the night.

Some pharmacies such as Boots are shut during the hours of the funeral, while Lloyds and Well Pharmacy stores will be shut all day.

The government has advised on its website that the additional bank holiday "will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning". Although it says that some businesses "may wish to consider closing or postponing events,” there is no statutory entitlement to time off for workers.

The bidding

The Dean of Westminster gives the bidding.

In grief and also in profound thanksgiving we come to this House of God, to a place of prayer, to a church where remembrance and hope are sacred duties. Here, where Queen Elizabeth was married and crowned, we gather from across the nation, from the Commonwealth, and from the nations of the world, to mourn our loss, to remember her long life of selfless service, and in sure confidence to commit her to the mercy of God our maker and redeemer.

With gratitude we remember her unswerving commitment to a high calling over so many years as Queen and Head of the Commonwealth. With admiration we recall her life-long sense of duty and dedication to her people. With thanksgiving we praise God for her constant example of Christian faith and devotion. With affection we recall her love for her family and her commitment to the causes she held dear.

"Now, in silence, let us in our hearts and minds recall our many reasons for thanksgiving, pray for all members of her family, and commend Queen Elizabeth to the care and keeping of almighty God.

O merciful God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though he die; and whosoever liveth, and believeth in him, shall not die eternally; who hast taught us, by his holy Apostle Saint Paul, not to be sorry, as men without hope, for them that sleep in him: We meekly beseech thee, O Father, to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in him, as our hope is this our sister doth; and that, at the general Resurrection in the last day, we may be found acceptable in thy sight; and receive that blessing, which thy well-beloved Son shall then pronounce to all that love and fear thee, saying, Come, ye blessed children of my Father, receive the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world. Grant this, we beseech thee, O merciful Father, through Jesus Christ, our mediator and redeemer. Amen.

Hymns and prayers

All sing St Clement:

The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended, the darkness falls at thy behest; to thee our morning hymns ascended, thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank thee that thy Church unsleeping, while earth rolls onward into light, through all the world her watch is keeping, and rests not now by day or night.

As o'er each continent and island the dawn leads on another day, the voice of prayer is never silent, nor dies the strain of praise away.

The sun that bids us rest is waking our brethren 'neath the western sky, and hour by hour fresh lips are making thy wondrous doings heard on high.

So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never, like earth's proud empires, pass away; thy kingdom stands, and grows forever, till all thy creatures own thy sway.

John Ellerton (1826-93) Clement Scholefield (1839-1904) arranged by James O'Donnell (b 1961)

The Right Honourable the Baroness Scotland of Asthal KC, Secretary-General of the

Commonwealth, reads the first lesson:

Now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26, 53-end

A specially commissioned piece will be sung by the choir. It is a setting of Psalm 42 to music composed by the Master of The King's Music, Judith Weir.

Like as the hart desireth the water-brooks: so longeth my soul after thee, O God. My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the living God: when shall I come to appear before the presence of God? My tears have been my meat day and night: while they daily say unto me, Where is now thy God? Now when I think thereupon, I pour out my heart by myself: for I went with the multitude, and brought them forth into the house of God; In the voice of praise and thanksgiving: among such as keep holy-day. Why art thou so full of heaviness, O my soul: and why art thou so disquieted within me? Put thy trust in God: for I will yet give him thanks for the help of his countenance.

Prime Minister Liz Truss will read the second lesson

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father. John 14: 1-9a

All sing the hymn 'The Lord's my shepherd' - which was was also sung at Prince Philip and the Queen's wedding in 1947.

The Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want; he makes me down to lie in pastures green; he leadeth me the quiet waters by. My soul he doth restore again, and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness, e'en for his own name's sake. Yea, though I walk through death's dark vale, yet will I fear none ill; for thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still. My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes; my head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows. Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me; and in God's house for evermore my dwelling place shall be. Psalm 23, attributed to Jessie Seymour Irvine (1836-87) harmony by David Grant (1833-93) descant by William Baird Ross (1871-1950)

The sermon will be delivered by the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan.

The choir sings the Anthem

My soul, there is a country Far beyond the stars, Where stands a wingèd sentry All skilful in the wars: There above noise, and danger, Sweet Peace sits crowned with smiles, And One born in a manger Commands the beauteous files. He is thy gracious friend, And (O my soul, awake!) Did in pure love descend, To die here for thy sake. If thou canst get but thither, There grows the flower of Peace, The Rose that cannot wither, Thy fortress, and thy ease. Leave then thy foolish ranges, For none can thee secure, But One who never changes, Thy God, thy Life, thy Cure. From Songs of Farewell, Hubert Parry (1848-1918), by Henry Vaughan (1621-95)

The prayers

The Reverend Mark Birch, Minor Canon and Precentor, leads the prayers from the High Altar:

In confidence and trust, let us pray to the Father.

The Reverend Dr Iain Greenshields, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, says:

Let us give thanks to God for Queen Elizabeth's long life and reign, recalling with gratitude her gifts of wisdom, diligence, and service. O God, from whom cometh everything that is upright and true: accept our thanks for the gifts of heart and mind that thou didst bestow upon thy daughter Elizabeth, and which she showed forth among us in her words and deeds; and grant that we may have grace to live our lives in accordance with thy will, to seek the good of others, and to remain faithful servants unto our lives' end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ms Shermara Fletcher, Principal Officer for Pentecostal and Charismatic Relations, Churches Together in England, says:

Confident in God's love and compassion, let us pray for all those whose hearts are heavy with grief and sorrow. Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort: deal graciously, we pray thee, with those who mourn, that casting every care on thee, they may know the consolation of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Right Reverend and Right Honourable Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, Bishop of London and Dean of His Majesty's Chapels Royal, says:

Let us pray for His Majesty The King and all the Royal Family; that they may know the sustaining power of God's love and the prayerful fellowship of God's people. Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless our most gracious Sovereign Lord King Charles, Camilla The Queen Consort, William Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family: endue them with thy Holy Spirit, enrich them with thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Reverend Canon Helen Cameron, Moderator of the Free Churches Group, says:

In recognition of Queen Elizabeth's service to this United Kingdom, let us rejoice in her unstinting devotion to duty, her compassion for her subjects, and her counsel to her ministers; and we pray for the continued health and prosperity of this Nation. O almighty God, whose will it is that all thy children should serve thee in serving one another: look with love, we pray thee, on this Nation. Grant to its citizens grace to work together with honest and faithful hearts, each caring for the good of all; that, seeking first thy kingdom and its righteousness, they may possess all things needful for their daily sustenance and the common good; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, says:

Let us give thanks for Queen Elizabeth's commitment to the Commonwealth throughout her reign, for her service and dedication to its peoples, and for the rich bonds of unity and mutual support she sustained. Almighty and everlasting God, hear our prayer for the Commonwealth, and grant it the guidance of thy wisdom. Inspire those in authority, that they may promote justice and the common good; give to all its citizens the spirit of mutual honour and respect; and grant to us all grace to strive for the establishment of righteousness and peace; for the honour of thy name. Amen.

The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York, Primate of England and Metropolitan, says:

We give thanks to God for Queen Elizabeth's loyalty to the faith she inherited through her baptism and confirmation, and affirmed at her coronation; for her unswerving devotion to the Gospel; and for her steadfast service as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Lord, we beseech thee to keep thy household the Church in continual godliness; that through thy protection she may be free from all adversities, and devoutly given to serve thee in all good works, to the glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Precentor says:

Let us pray that we may be given grace to live as those who believe in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to eternal life. Bring us, O Lord God, at our last awakening into the house and gate of heaven, to enter into that gate and dwell in that house, where there shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light; no noise nor silence, but one equal music; no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession; no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity; in the habitation of thy glory and dominion, world without end. Amen. John Donne (1572-1631)

The choir sings 'O Taste and see how gracious the Lord is', composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams for the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

The Precentor concludes:

In confidence and hope, let us pray to the Father in the words our Saviour taught us, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

All stand to sing the hymn Blaenwern

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown. Jesu, thou art all compassion, pure unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart. Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. Finish then thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be; let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee, changed from glory into glory till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise! Charles Wesley (1707-88) William Rowlands (1860-1937) arranged by James O'Donnell

The Commendation will be given by the Archbishop of Canterbury

Let us commend to the mercy of God, our maker and redeemer, the soul of Elizabeth, our late Queen. Heavenly Father, King of kings, Lord and giver of life, who of thy grace in creation didst form mankind in thine own image, and in thy great love offerest us life eternal in Christ Jesus; claiming the promises of thy most blessed Son, we entrust the soul of Elizabeth, our sister here departed, to thy merciful keeping, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life, when Christ shall be all in all; who died and rose again to save us, and now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, in glory for ever. Amen.

Go forth, O Christian soul, from this world, in the name of God the Father almighty, who created thee; in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who suffered for thee; in the name of the Holy Spirit, who was poured out upon thee and anointed thee. In communion with all the blessed saints, and aided by the angels and archangels and all the armies of the heavenly host, may thy portion this day be in peace, and thy dwelling in the heavenly Jerusalem. Amen.

Anthem - the choir sings Romans 8: 35a, 38b-end, composed for this Service by Sir James MacMillan CBE (b 1959)

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Alleluia! Amen.

The Dean of Westminster will pronounce the Blessing

God grant to the living grace; to the departed rest; to the Church, The King, the Commonwealth, and all people, peace and concord, and to us sinners, life everlasting; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

As the service comes to a close, all will remain standing as The Last Post will be sounded by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry from the steps of the Lady Chapel.

A two-minute silence will then be observed across the UK, followed by The Reveille sounded by the State Trumpeters .

All remain standing as the congregation sings the National Anthem, God Save The King.

God save our gracious King, long live our noble King, God save The King. Send him victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us: God save The King. Thy choicest gifts in store on him be pleased to pour, long may he reign. May he defend our laws, and ever give us cause to sing with heart and voice: God save The King! Arranged by Gordon Jacob (1895-1984)

All remain standing as The Queen's Piper, Warrant Officer Class 1 (Pipe Major) Paul Burns, plays Sleep, dearie, sleep.

All remain standing as the Coffin and Processions leave the church.

Daniel W. Fletcher SS23 Is an Ode to British Culture

Beginning with a one-minute silence, the show started solemnly. Adequately dubbed Stand and Deliver commenced with an all-black suit coupled with an armband of the same colour, all made from British wool. The show in its entirety was a juxtaposition of respect and rebellion, with tailoring and fluid cuts and dashes of faux fur meshing to create something new and vibrant.

Daniel W. Fletcher SS23 Is an Ode to British Culture

Words Bethany Boyo

Daniel W. Fletcher shows us what it means to be quintessentially British.

The show adequately dubbed Stand and Deliver began with one minute of silence in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. First up on the runway was an all-black suit coupled with an armband of the same colour, all made from British wool. The show in its entirety was a juxtaposition of respect and rebellion, with tailoring, fluid cuts and dashes of faux fur meshing to create something new and vibrant.

The Daniel W. Fletcher runway was an ode to British culture, falling right into place with current affairs, an almost nostalgic array of both times past and present. The collection seemed to almost transition from day to night, flowing and becoming less about the tailoring and more about fluidity in more ways than one.

Stunning pieces included an all-black double-breasted suit overlayed with a pleated satin wrap skirt, white neck sash, and a broad-shouldered coat in a re-imagined Prince of Wales check print. Divine evening dresses with cut-out detailing and twinkling embellishments were seen next to leather pieces and corsetry, making the collection a soirée of glamour with a touch of drama.

A collection that was made to Stand and Deliver, the accessories also took centre stage, with jewellery from the London-based brand Hatton Labs accentuating every design and collaborative shearling bags with Axel Arigato. Fletcher shows us what it means to be quintessentially British.

Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda at the Valley of the Temples

The breath-taking show that embodied ancient Greek mythology took place at the Valley of the Temples, located in Agrigento, Sicily . The sun set out a golden veil, highlighting the intricate detail and embroidery on each of the garments as the models began to parade down the runway. An astonishing 125 looks were put together for the show. Ranging from the full skirts and dresses, down to the head wear and accessories, it was clear that the incredible craftsmanship at Dolce & Gabbana was nothing short of skilful and admirable expertise. The beautiful historic setting paired alongside the complementary collection, made it one of the most magical and majestic shows as seen in fashion.

Saint Laurent S/S 2020

Taking place underneath the dazzling illuminations of the Eiffel tower, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello showcased his Spring/Summer 2020 collection.  Adding a modern twist to the previous YSL collections, we saw tailored suits alongside sequinned pieces and knee high boots strut the runway between the beams of white light. This time, the signature YSL punk chic look was dialled down to a softer, more romantic and timeless experience. As the iconic model Naomi Campbell closed the show in an all black sequin suit, its doubtless to say that onlookers were just as thrilled to see the striking spectacle unfold.

 Chanel F/W 2014

From Chanel ketchup to Chanel detergents, Karl Lagerfeld turned our dreams into a reality with his very own Chanel supermarket. With colourful and fun pieces dominating the show, the signature Chanel tweed aesthetic remains a staple within the collection. The show put forward multiple looks, ranging from the sporty luxe sneakers to the oversized and baggy jackets, offering a more supermarket casual collection that incudes everyday wear. This show highlighted a new and creative perspective on fashion that undoubtedly did not disappoint, making this one of Chanel’s most memorable collections.

Alexander McQueen S/S 1999

No.13 is considered to be one of Alexander McQueen’s most remarkable shows to date. It is regarded as a piece of performance art by many and the pinnacle of McQueen’s artistic stature. The show ranged from prosthetics to solid leather bodices and focused on neutral shades such as off white and beige. Rough parts of the garments such as belts and harnesses were softened by the addition of delicate lace and ruffle designs. The most memorable part of the show took place when famous model, Shalom Harlow, stood between two robotic arms stationed on opposite sides of her. Her white ruffled dress was sprayed black and yellow as she rotated and the robots acting with increasing agility. This performance undoubtedly left a mark on many and will go down as one of the greatest fashion moments in history.

Jacquemus S/S 2020 - “Le Coup De Soleil,”

Located in a lavender field in the south of France, a bright pink carpet is set out in celebration of 10 years of Simon Porte Jacquemus’ label. The models paraded the pink carpet in bold, summery prints with a variety of funky accessories, including micro bags and bedazzled pieces in collaboration with Swarovski. The location and collection go hand in hand with each other almost like a dream, making this one of the most beautiful and breath-taking shows in fashion to date. The young designer, who has been compared to the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, has without a doubt left us eager and excited for the future of Jacquemus.

What Does the Queen’s Passing Mean for London Fashion Week?

What Does the Queen’s Passing Mean for London Fashion Week?

Words Lily Hall

London Fashion Week is one of the most significant events of the year within the fashion industry, with this year’s set to be the biggest in three years after pandemic-related disruptions. Due to the unfortunate passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there is some uncertainty about the schedule for the spring/summer 23 fashion shows.

The fashion world has been paying their respects and gratitude to the Queen, the UK’s longest reigning monarch, who died at the age of 96, at home in Balmoral. Her Majesty, across her 70 years of reign, was a long-time supporter of the British fashion industry and has been an inspiration for designers, such as Richard Quinn who created a collection referencing the monarch.

In 2018, for the first time, the Queen sat front row at Quinn’s show during London Fashion Week before presenting him with the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. The British Fashion Council added to their tribute, “Her Majesty’s effortless style, charm and sense of fun was evident and her passion in supporting young creatives will continue to inspire the next generation”.

The mourning period for the Queen, in the lead up to her funeral, will affect day to day life like television broadcasting and sports fixtures. The British Fashion Council released a statement following the death stating that shows and presentations scheduled for London Fashion Week could continue but non-essential events, like parties and openings, will be cancelled as a sign of respect. Any shows scheduled for the date of the funeral will be rearranged.

Shows and presentations that will go ahead have been asked to “respect the mood of the nation and period of national mourning by considering the timing of their image release”. The British Fashion Council have claimed they will also communicate this message to the media and the BFC communication channels will be dedicated to the impact and influence of Her Majesty The Queen.

Although shows may continue, major luxury fashion brand Burberry has decided to cancel their runway show in response and respect to the death of the Queen. Burberry is usually one of the centrepieces and biggest names of the week and the decision not to showcase the spring/summer 2023 collection will likely put pressure on organisers and other brands to cancel.

Similarly, Claudie Pierlot, a French luxury label, has cancelled its SS23 presentation which was set to take place on Friday 16th September at its London Marylebone flagship store. The collection will be previewed at the Paris Fashion Week in late September instead. The Raf Simons catwalk show has also been cancelled, as the country enters a period of official mourning, out of respect during a time of great sadness.

A pared-back London Fashion Week will go ahead in the coming weeks while still recognising and remembering the Queen’s life and extraordinary legacy.

You know love Gossip Girl xoxo

When do you think of Gossip Girl what comes to mind? The crazy storylines or the fashion, it is the fashion. Gossip Girl 2007 was based on the novels written by Cecily Von Ziegesar written in the early 2000s that centre around wealthy teenagers just doing what they want. 15 years after the show that debuted on the CW Gossip girl still had a grip on people, they even made a reboot last year.

When watching Gossip Girl, the fashion really captives you, each of the characters has a style that is iconic and unique from Blair’s iconic headscarf to Chuck’s scarf.

Blair Waldorf-Bass is the queen bee of Constance Billiard; throughout the show, her fashion is polished and preppy her hair is always perfect and never out of place.

Eric Daman the custom designer made sure she had girly romantic touches to her preppy looks such as hair bands and patterned tights she loves a patterned tight moment. Blair is a fan of old Hollywood, and her inspiration is Audrey Hepburn and is influenced by her and adopts a conservative style. Blair is known to be mean and manipulative in the way she approaches people and situations.

Earlier in the seasons, Blair’s look consists of black, navy, and neutrals with occasional pops of colour such as her iconic pink and white floral dress in the later episodes of season 1. Her style is versatile despite it being in similar hues.

Blair’s style is a mixture of sophistication yet girly giving her looks a balance of being mature yet still having a flirty innocence. Skirts, dresses, lace, and ruffles are Blair’s go-to look outside of school and we rarely see her wear trousers.

Blair isn’t as outgoing as Serena to disguise that trait of being approachable she wears a lot of bright colours when she is scheming to get her way. In comparison, Serena Blair’s fashion is darker and less bright. In the earlier seasons of Gossip Girl Blair’s style is on the peppier side to coincide with her need to be in control as she falls in love with Chuck her style is much more romantic and whimsical and starts to wear more colour.

Serena Van der Woodsen is the bubbly frenemy of Blair Waldorf; her style can’t be any more different from Blair’s they are day and night. Serena’s style is boho chic reminiscent of the 2000s iconic model Kate Moss who had the iconic boho chich which was trendy in the late 2000s. Serena also has a Grecian Goddess style as she wore a lot of floaty dresses that

Serena’s style and personality are juxtaposed to Blair’s as her look is very messy yet effortless, she rolls out of bed puts on an outfit and looks good without very little planning. Her style matches her very aloof yet charming personality. She favours looks such as skinny jeans with high-heeled boots or very mini dresses which was the style out of the time compared to Blair’s more old classic style.  Serena’s style is very mismatched with various prints however it looks stylish and not out of place compared to Vanessa’s style which has a similar boohoo style.

Her style is high end however she puts her own twist on the way she styles these pieces. Even her school uniform is very true to Serena, she wears her shirt untucked and wears her school skirt short. She is a fan of sparkles, metallics and animal print. She loves an oversized bag and long necklaces to complete her look. Her style raises eyebrows amongst the upper elite as Serena isn’t afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to her makeup and fashion. She tends to wear warmer colours such as coral, golds, pinks, and blues. Her style is easier to recreate than Blair’s due to the fact it is causal wear with a twist.

Jenny Humphrey: Jenny is the younger sister of Dan Humphrey and does not come from money like the other girls in the show. In the first two seasons, she is a clone of Blair, however, in the latter half of season two, Jenny’s style becomes darker after the actress Taylor Mommsen’s style became integrated into Jenny’s style.

Jenny dresses similarly to Blair to be liked by Blair by wearing similar preppy twits on her school uniform as she doesn’t come from money, she often makes her own clothes or gets hand-me-downs. She is a people pleaser and that comes through in the way she dresses as she doesn’t have her own identity. As the show progresses her style is punk rock and gothic with loads of black and blood red lips, she is whiter and longer, no longer the clean-cut girl from the first season. In the first season, she adds colour to her uniform such as pink, red and oranges and as her style evolves, she starts wearing black, grey, and earthy greens.

Georgina Sparks makes Blair look like an angel, Georgina’s style is just as dark as Jenny’s, yet it has a boho chic edge to it however it is in a sophisticated way, she favours black, grey, and purple. Skinny jeans are a constant staple in her wardrobe, her accessories are huge sunglasses and towering black high heels.

Chuck Bass: Where do we start? The male version of Blair, the well-dressed devious male on the show, is known for his iconic scarf in season 1 and he is always well dressed, from his school uniform to his suits. He is smart, tailored and never a hair out place, he and Blair dress complement each other out of all the boys he is the most fashion conscious, he wears cardigans in red and black and tends to wear darker hues just like Blair however he did wear colourful suits at times. He is one of the most iconic male fashion characters on TV.

Nate Archibald: He is the preppy Labrador of the series; he is the poster boy of Ralph Lauren wearing mostly polo shirts and loafers however he gives a little edge by making it look messy at times as he starts to rebel from his classic preppy style and becomes a little more rugged as the series progresses. He wears a lot of green and blue to bring out his eye colour as well as the season progresses, he wears more casual laid back styles.

Dan Humphrey: The poorest one out of the main characters, he isn’t into fashion as he is a writer, therefore, it reflects the way he dresses, he is a fan of neutral colours such as various shades of brown and black and occasionally burgundies and red he wears a lot of jeans even when he becomes a successful author and has a better finical situation his style is still rugged just more elevated.

Gossip Girl has proven that fashion makes a show, even after the show ended 10 years ago, it still has an impact on millennials and Gen Z who have their own takes on fashion. We can’t wait to see how Gossip Girl 2021 lives an impact when the show ends.

When it comes to the white t-shirt, there are many ways to style yours, from pairing it with your fave pair of jeans to pairing yours with a classic blazer, taking your look from day to night in seconds.

How to Style the White Tee

Words EdAnne Rowe-Taylor

When it comes to the white t-shirt, there are many ways to style yours, from pairing it with your fave pair of jeans to pairing yours with a classic blazer, taking your look from day to night in seconds, we’ve got you covered.

The classic white tee and blazer combination

A white tee is perfect for layering. The blazer and white tee is a combo that is classic and timeless. You can pair the white tee with a black blazer for more classic wear or if you want to be bold, pair it with a colourful blazer. Pink is currently very on trend with the pink Valentino collection and the upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The key to accessories is to keep it simple. Zara has great, affordable jewellery that won’t break the bank. Pair with heels and voila, the white tee is not just a white tee anymore.

The white tee and jeans combination.

Make it very casual with trainers or sandals and a straw bag; very LA chic or you can make this combo bold and sexy, with mules or any high heel of choice and a bold chunky necklace to really add a touch of glamour to your white tee. Gucci and Prada have some excellent jewellery pieces that are timeless and sophisticated.

The all-white fit

White never, ever goes out of style. You can wear a button-down white shirt and white skirt in either mini or midi, pair it with chunky jewellery to really bring the outfit to life, and finish with a handbag and bold lip. If you prefer a simpler look, you can tone it down with a basic white tee and white jeans or trousers with white chunky trainers, if you prefer the ‘athleisure’ style.

7 Ways to Improve Your Self-care

Recharging is essential. When we feel overwhelmed, we lack energy and focus to make clear decisions and remain productive. The most important thing to remember is that self-care doesn't look the same for everyone. Here are 7 of WOTC’s suggestions on improving your self-care.

7 Ways to Improve Your Self-care

WOTC Magazine

Recharging is essential. When we feel overwhelmed, we lack energy and focus to make clear decisions and remain productive.

When we speak about self-care, we talk about the conscious and deliberate choice to do something that looks after you and your wellbeing, and almost anything can be considered self-care, from flossing regularly to taking time out to think to getting a new haircut.

The most important thing to remember is that self-care doesn't look the same for everyone. Here are 7 of WOTC’s suggestions on improving your self-care.

  1. Boost, vim and vigour

Yes, we know, you’ll sleep when you’re dead, but it’s OK, to sleep now too. Don’t feel guilty about this. 4-5 hours every night is enough to keep you going throughout the day.

Pay attention to your diet and how active you are. Nourishing food and regular exercise are key self-care boosters.

2. Pamper your health

A dental checkup, well-woman examination and prompt attention to medical conditions reap big rewards for you.

3. Time out for fun

Watch a favourite movie or TV show, spend time with friends or go on a spontaneous staycation. When you laugh heartily, it triggers endorphins, which creates a sense of ease.

4. Expand your mind

Learn something new, read a book or take up a new hobby. You’re never too old to learn and constantly keeping your mind engaged, keeps your mind sharp.

5. Don’t expect to be a superwoman

Say no to perfectionism. Know when to say "no" to extra jobs and delegate responsibilities.

6. Get organised

Set priorities and attack cluttered schedules and spaces. How tidy or untidy your space is usually a clear indication of your state of mind.

7. Reserve time for simple pleasures

From getting a manicure to getting a new hair cut or style, simple pleasures are a great help to your mental health and can be a major mood booster.

10 Mules You Need Right Now

For every occasion there is a mule perfectly designed, so pull out your notepads and take note, because these are the hottest mules out now. Don’t worry there is just enough quirk, trend and glitz for you here. In no particular order, here is my top 10.

Cinderella may have been a fairytale but I know these glass slippers are the real deal. With a 2.6” heel they are comfortable but the Mach & Mach signature bow will always be the star of the show.

A business woman isn't complete without her digital sidekick, her smartphone, and what's a smartphone without a few, or perhaps 50, apps? WOTC provides the greatest apps for all you entrepreneurial women to have on your phone, so you can govern your empire and your personal life with the touch of a button.

PDF to Word Converter with OCR

The majority of business women deal with a large number of paperwork on a daily basis. The majority of the documents are in PDF format because it is lighter and more secure.

It would be nearly impossible to use the same document again because PDFs are extremely difficult to alter. Here's when PDF to Word Converter comes in handy. It allows you to easily convert PDF files to editable MS Word files for later editing.

Conversion quality is excellent, and the software supports the majority of popular cloud services like iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, and others.

It also includes a built-in document scanner, eliminating the need for a separate scanner software.

Available on: iOS and Android

Slack

Slack is the perfect team collaboration and communication platform for entrepreneurs. It connects people with information, allowing for more effective communication. Furthermore, it interfaces with practically all of the tools and programmes that your firm already employs.

As a result of remote or hybrid work becoming popular due to COVID, Slack has become the best app for communicating with your team on a daily basis. It's simple to set up several channels for different projects and save crucial communications.

Available: IOS and Android

Expensify

If you travel frequently for work or own your own business, this software is a must-have. Many people regard it as one of the top productivity apps. It will save you a lot of time when it comes to logging receipts and mileage.

It employs SmartScan technology, which means that the camera on your smartphone is used to scan receipts. Simply scan the receipt, assign it to the appropriate expenditure report, and the app will do the rest.

It automatically gets information from the receipt, such as the amount, time, and date, eliminating the need for manual entry.

The software also gives the ability to automatically input your credit cards.

Available on: iOS and Android

Canva

Today, content is everything, for your social media, your community, and your business. According to one study, "individuals are 80 percent more likely to read text with coloured graphics" (HubSpot, 2020). However, the attractive content that we see nowadays is primarily created using various softwares such as Adobe Photoshop. Canva, on the other hand, is a solution for creating excellent content without mastering Photoshop.

It is a graphic design tool that allows you to generate visual content such as presentations, posters, documents, and graphics. It offers a website and an app with templates for a variety of applications. Canva is free for everyone, although there are paid subscriptions available with more features.

Available: IOS and Android

Square

Square makes it exceedingly simple to accept credit and debit card payments in person. All you need is your smartphone and a tiny reader, which Square will send you when you sign up. You can accept both standard and chip cards, which simplifies the sales process.

If you make sales at a countertop or in a store, you can easily upgrade to Square Stand.

Available: IOS and Android

Calendly

Having a diary is wonderful for keeping track of your appointments, activities, and meetings, but wouldn't you prefer an easier approach to organise your appointments, events, and meetings?

Calendly is an app that plans meetings, appointments, and events without the back-and-forth. Instead than going through several messages and email chains, connect your calendar and email so you can communicate your availability and obtain your own personal link to give to everyone.

Available: IOS and Android

LinkedIn

LinkedIn makes networking and relationship development easier. You may use the app to find people based on their qualifications, industry, employment, and area, among other things. You can connect with and keep in touch with contacts, which means you have more prospects for commercial agreements.

The app also gives a forum for you to discuss ideas, establish a personal brand, and showcase previous work. You can also keep up with connected industry trends and other vital news.

Wix Owner App

If you developed your website on Wix, then the Wix owner app is a must-have for your phone. Don't wait till you go home, to your business, or to a café to change your website or check on your clients. With excellent free designs and tools, use the Wix Owner app to construct and customise a website for your business, blog, online store, portfolio, or any other reason you require.

Available: IOS and Android

Trello

Trello makes project management fun and easy. Using the app, you may collaborate with other team members and visualise what has to be done. You can organise tasks into cards, lists, or boards based on what works best for your team.

Additionally, it has a number of tools that allow you to see which projects are active, who is working on them, and what their status is. You can also assign projects to employees, set deadlines, and prioritise work. It's a straightforward yet effective method for managing all of your tasks in a single intuitive, user-friendly smartphone app.

These are just a few must-have apps for the productive boss lady; there are many more, of course, but let's start with these to see if you live a stress-free existence.

6 Stunning Structure’s worth Visiting

Across the world, Architects have designed some of the most unique structures and buildings we’ve ever seen. Design styles such as post-modern, Neofuturist and contemporary have been explored boldly, resulting in some amazing creations which are definitely pleasing to the eye! As an Architecture lover myself, I've always been fascinated and inspired by unique buildings which push beyond normal societal design expressions and delve into a new era of bold design.

6 Stunning Structures Worth Visiting

Words Barbara Akinkunmi

Across the world, Architects have designed some of the most unique structures and buildings we’ve ever seen. Design styles such as post-modern, Neofuturist and contemporary have been explored boldly, resulting in some amazing creations which are definitely pleasing to the eye! As an Architecture lover myself, I've always been fascinated and inspired by unique buildings which push beyond normal societal design expressions and delve into a new era of bold design.

Here are 6 completed projects worth visiting in person:

Metropol Parasol, Jürgen Mayer - Setas de Sevilla, Spain

This beautiful wooden structure is located in the old quarter of Seville IN Spain. The structure accommodates an archaeological museum, farmers market, an elevated plaza, bars and restaurants. The Metropol Parasol was actually created in response to a problem within the city. Itl was intended to bring life to the city again following the destruction of the old marketplace in Seville, which left a huge void in the urban character of the city. It’s definitely worth a visit!

The Vessel, Thomas Heatherwick - New York City, New York

New York certainly isn't short of landmarks, however this is one that I would recommend visiting. The Vessel is a copper-surfaced stairwell interwoven together providing 154 flights of stairs. 80 landing platforms within the structure provide spaces for visitors to rest or enjoy new perspectives of New York city from different heights and angles.

Dancing House, Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry - Prague, Czech Republic

The design style of the Dancing House is known as ‘deconstructivist’’ due to its unusual shape. I have personally visited it myself and it stands out amongst the other surrounding buildings in the area. The “dancing” shape itself is supported by various sizes and shapes of concrete panels and on the top of the building lies a large metal  twisted structure known as ‘Medusa’. The building itself accommodates shops, a hotel, and a small cafeteria, offices and a restaurant. The restaurant on the top level provides guests with an amazing panoramic view of the city, surrounding river, and the nearby castle.

Bridge Pavilion, Zaha Hadid - Zaragoza, Spain

By my favourite world renown Architect, The Bridge Pavilion is a unique 270-metre-long covered bridge that sits over the river Ebro in spain. It successfully and innovatively connects the local neighbourhood with the exposition site. I love this bridge because it’s not only a bridge. At the same time it is a multi-level exhibition area! It is a great seamless arrangement of a pedestrian bridge and exhibition halls.

Guggenheim Museum, Frank Ghery — Bilbao, Spain

When it comes to Frank Ghery, you can trust him to design outside the norm. His design boldness through the Guggenheim Museum has definitely attracted the interest of many with almost 4‭ ‬million tourists visiting the museum during the Museum’s first three years of operation. This museum is seamlessly integrated into the urban context in spain. The building itself is made of titanium, limestone and glass. The design features of random curves on the exterior are designed to catch the light and react to the sun and the weather.  At the time, the building's complex and daring architecture was unusual for a large-scale cultural institution but now its uniqueness is celebrated.

Port Authority Building, Zaha Hadid - Antwerp, Belgium

This building was previously a derelict fire station but through Zaha’s innovation, it has been renovated into  a HQ building for the Port Authority. I love this building because it’s a great blend between old and new architecture. The old is identified with the existing fire station building from the early 20th century, while the new is recognisable in the multifaceted shape of the extension on top.
